Strelka 5.5: How to Get the Latest Version of the Strongest Chess Program in Russia

In May 2007, a new chess engine called Strelka (Russian for "arrow") appeared on the scene, claimed to be written by Yuri Osipov (born in 1962). Soon, there were allegations that Strelka was a clone of Rybka 1.0 beta, in the sense that it was a reverse-engineered and slightly modified version of Rybka.[7] Several players found Strelka to yield identical analysis to Rybka in a variety of different situations, even having the same bugs and weaknesses in some cases. Osipov, however, stated repeatedly on discussion boards that Strelka was based on Fruit, not Rybka, and that any similarities was either because Rybka also was based on Fruit, or because he had tuned the evaluation function to be as close to Rybka as possible.[8][9]

Chess engines play a huge role in 21st century chess. Mostly due to their presence we now see 15, 14, 13 and even 12 year old grandmasters, something that was unthinkable just 20 years ago.

Stockfish is the most powerful, free, open source chess engine in the world. Rated only 20 ELO points below the top commercial chess engine Houdini 4, Stockfish is definitely a great alternative for most chess players.

Fire is another awfully strong chess engine, rated almost 300 points higher than the highest rated human chess player. After a multiple updates from the publisher, Fire scores high on many of the top computer rating lists.

Hannibal is a state-of-the-art chess engine with a distinct playing style. Hannibal is a strategic player and relies on its very selective search, good endgame knowledge and an understanding of material imbalances.

Thinker,a chess engine from the Chess Thinker collection of programs that include a Windows UI (Thinkerboard), a Pocket PC ICS client (Pocket PC Thinkerboard) and a Book engine (BookThinker) [2] [3]. Thinker was initially developed by Lance Perkins as private engine with an own GUI, who submitted the Chess Engine Communication Protocol compliant Thinker to Leo Dijksman's tournament [4]. Since 2004, Thinker regularly participated at CCT Tournaments, since 2008 at ACCA Americas' Computer Chess Championship. In 2009, the development of Thinker 5.x was assumed by Kerwin Medina [5] [6], while Lance Perkins was involved in development of the Chess Thinker collection, to port Thinker for Pocket PC and the Nintendo DS. In 2010, already under the aegis and lonesome authorship of Kerwin Medina, Thinker played the WCSC 2010 and at the same time the WCCC 2010 [7], where it became third, and was declared joint champion along with Rondo after the disqualification of Rybka by the ICGA in June 2011. Further, Thinker won the ACCA 2010 and the ACCA 2011.Thinker utilize bitboards and is written in C++. Its class design disallows to output any infos while thinking during game play [8].

As of 2 September 2017 GNU Chess 5.60 is rated at 2813 Elo points (when using one CPU) on CCRL's 40-moves-in-40-minutes list. For comparison, the strongest chess engine in the list using one CPU, Strelka 5.5, has an Elo rating of 3108 (the 295 ELO point difference indicates that Strelka 5.5 would beat GNU Chess 5.60 in about 85% of games). On the same list, Fritz 8 is rated at only 2701, and that program in the 2004 Man vs Machine World Team Championship beat grandmasters Sergey Karjakin, Veselin Topalov and reached a draw with Ruslan Ponomariov. The IQ6 test suite (a collection of chess problems from Livshits's book Test Your Chess IQ) indicates that on a single core of an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU GNU Chess performs at the senior master/weak international master strength of 2500+ on the Elo rating system.

The first version of GNU Chess was written by Stuart Cracraft back in 1984. Versions from 2 to 4 were written by John Stanback. Version 5 was written by Chua Kong-Sian. Version 6 was written by Fabien Letouzey. Chua Kong Sian (Kong Sian) is a Singaporean computer scientist affiliated with the National University of Singapore and its former National Supercomputing Research Centre Singapore. As computer chess programmer, Chua Kong Sian is author of Cobalt, primary author of GNU Chess Version 5, and author of the C++ UCI bitboard-based engine Melee Chess.

10 Strongest Free Chess Engines [all above 3000 ELO] at TheChessWorld.com Stockfish is the most powerful, free, open source chess engine in the world. Rated only 20 ELO points below the top commercial chess engine Houdini 4.

The Stockfish engine features two evaluation functions for chess, the classical evaluation based on handcrafted terms, and the NNUE (Efficiently Updateable Neural Network) evaluation based on efficiently updatable neural networks. The classical evaluation runs efficiently on almost all CPU architectures, while the NNUE evaluation benefits from the vector intrinsics available on most CPUs (sse2, avx2, neon, or similar).

The NNUE evaluation was first introduced in shogi, and ported to Stockfish afterward. It can be evaluated efficiently on CPUs, and exploits the fact that only parts of the neural network need to be updated after a typical chess move. On CPUs supporting modern vector instructions, the NNUE evaluation results in much stronger playing strength, even if the nodes per second computed by the engine is somewhat lower (roughly 80% of nps is typical).

My compilation Brainfish-101117 (arm7, arm64v8). To use the book Cerebellum_Light_Poly.bin (download the latest version of this book from the official site in polyglot format), create a book folder in the phone's memory and put a book in it. The path should look like this: /sdcard/book/Cerebellum_Light_Poly.bin, when the engine starts the book connects automatically.

There is Symphosodon for android already. But Cichess and Cfish/Stockfish is better. If rather see a new engine ported (different style). For example Nemorino, Laser etc.Andscacs is a great compiles so hoping to see more new engines by Alexei in future ;-) in future:-)

Hi Gurcan I dowbloaded hawk chess from play store and i tried to install chess engine but its show nothing only show a black area (version naguat7.1)elsewhere in my other android phone its work properly(version lolipop)
